Estos premios son entregados por la sucursal en Hollywood de ASIFA (la sociedad internacional de profesionales de la animación fuera de Francia). La primera vez que fueron entregados fue en 1972, y originalmente se llamaron los Premios Winsor McKay. Comenzaron a reconocer a la mejor animación del año en 1992 cuando ganó La Bella y la Bestia, y Los Simpsons ganaron como Mejor Show Televisado del Año. Son el equivalente al Oscar, y ahora además reconocen el duro empeño y la dedicación de todos los que trabajan en la animación.
